Routines and Social Media

I've been quite sick for the last week or so, so this is only going to be brief. I'm slowly but surely getting into writing again. Even if it is a sentence at a time, over the last few days I've managed to get something down on paper. I'm hoping that, sooner or later, reaching for my notebook and pen will become a habit, and not something I have to force myself to do. It got me thinking about writing routines, and encouraged me to look at some of the routines of my favourite writers (I'll link some routines below).

I have decided to take the leap and delete social media for a while. In all honesty, it's not good for me. Whilst I love keeping up to date with anthologies, friends and other writers, I know I am better off without it. I'll still check in on it occasionally; my account is still active, I just no longer have it on my phone. It's nicer this way, I can really focus on my writing without any distractions, and needless to say it has worked so far. Since deleting it yesterday, I have already finished the first chapter of my novel, and I'm pretty satisfied with the quality of writing (grammatical errors aside).

I downloaded a habit tracker to keep me motivated. So far it's going pretty well. I've challenged myself to write at least one sentence a day, and to read at least one chapter (or 10 pages, if the book doesn't have any). My mind is clearing a bit, and I can focus now on what makes me happy. The biggest hurdle for me is not punishing myself if I miss one day, and I don't want it to turn into a chore. I'll keep you up to date with this in each writing update.

Sorry for the mismatched post. Like I said, I've been sick and my mind is all over the place, but I wanted to post something today. I'm just so relieved to be writing again. Hopefully I'll have some more exciting stuff coming up in the future.

All the best,

Talia
